When You said, “Seek My face [in prayer, require My presence as your greatest need],” my heart said to You, “Your face, O Lord, I will seek [on the authority of Your word].”
Psalm 27:8 [AMP]
A true seeker never settles until what they’re after is attained. There is genuine earnest attached to this pursuit. There is diligence and heartfelt longing. The force of godly desire is at work. That’s why God is delighted when we seek His face. There’s intentionality to it, not coercion. It flows out of obedience, not duty. The God-seeker’s attitude says, “I need many things in life, but I require God’s presence the most.”
“… seek and keep on seeking and you will find;”
Matthew 7:7 [AMP]
The thing about this pursuit is that it takes a lifetime. It’s not start-stop, on-off, touch-and-go. No, it’s day-in, day-out relationship. Seek God in January, as you would in June and in December. Seek God in the morning, throughout your day and in the evening. Work your schedule around God. Allow God’s presence to infiltrate your thoughts, your plans, your decisions. Let His voice guide your relationships, your attitude and your response to life.
How then is God sought after? By prayer and through His word. Prayer sets our hearts in the right posture to receive direction from God’s word. Prayer gets God’s intentions flowing in your direction, and constant doses of His written word builds your faith to withstand the fiery darts of the enemy. There are no substitutes for prayer and the word.
Make God a priority in life. Seek Him first. Do not trivialize His voice. Ask God to revive your heart and to re-energize your passion for Him. The Psalmist was blessed because he had a heart after God. In this regard, be like the Psalmist. For God promises to be found, if so diligently sought after.
